5G is really in talk now as it is the most desired and latest technology. Considering all its hype I moved towards finding some facts that is this technology for humans or not? I started to study some reports on 5G to decide its fatal nature but was unclear.
In many news reports I also read articles in which some known people were strictly against its launch. Well, they obviously follow sterotypes and do not talk on the basis of facts and results like the scientists do.
Moving forward with our point, consider the effect of mmWave on humans. Their range is 30 GHz to 300 GHz, and 5G systems lie between 28 GHz and 80 GHz. Three concerns can be taken into consideration: thermal effects, ionizing effects and electromagnetic (EM) effects.

The ionization process

I reviewed a study which focussed on both thermal and ionizing effects. The ionizing effects are easier to summarize, a mmWave photon can cause an electron to move from its orbit. This is known as ionization and can be a cause of cancer, just like UV radiation from sunlight.
We knew that energy of a photon is EÂ =Â hf, and taking 300GHz of frequency energy comes out to be 1.2 meV.which is highest for photon. Whereas it needs only 12eV energy to remove an electron which means that this energy is 10,000 times less than needed for ionization so any fatal effect can be eliminitated.
But the rays cause heating and it becomes painful as elevated temperature is always deadly. Now, lets’ move towards thermal concerns which is heating of the eyes and skin. According to a meta-study the mmWaves are absorbed within 2 mm of the skin, and in the cornea. Eyes have a special cooling effect due to less blood flow.
The permitted exposure of rays is 1.0 mW/cm² for frequencies between 1.5 GHz and 100 GHz and 24 GHz system at 5 cm away from the skin has a power density of 0.3 mW/cm². So, here we get confused about the usage so better is to use wired headphones at a safe distance.
